Seven Reasons You Should Travel
Seven Reasons You Should Travel

Travel brings numerous rewards. I encourage people to find a way to make travel a part of their life. If you have to give something else up to accomplish it, do it. Here are some reasons why:
1. It creates lifelong memories. I have stood in front of the Mona Lisa and Michangelo’s David. I have walked the streets of Pompeii and Assisi. I have ridden horses over Roman bridges and the Serengeti. I have skied down an Austrian glacier and the Colorado Rockies. I have seen endless wildlife in its natural habitat. These memories I will dream of for a life time.

2. Travel leads to learning. You can read about a culture, nature or art in a book, but it is never the same as experiencing it firsthand.
3. You will become better rounded. Travel will open your mind to other ways of thinking. Because things will be done differently than you are used to, you will have to adapt. This may open your mind to a new food, a new thought process or a new design.

4. Adventure builds confidence. Doing things you have never done before is exciting. Realizing that you can hike up a mountain trail, try a new food, ride trains you have never been on before helps you step up to new challenges elsewhere.

5. Improves problem solving skills. When on the road in strange places you will have to find new ways of doing things. Perhaps you have never ridden a subway in DC. You will figure it out once you are there.
6. Improves communication skills. No matter whether you travel internationally or to the other side of the country, the culture will be different than your hometown. If you communicate with the locals they may do it a little differently than you. You will find new ways to communicate and to understand others.
7. Improves your creativity. When I travel, I enjoy looking at different architecture, interior design, graphic design, packaging design, etc. Even airports have a design flair that is fun to take in and observe.
I travel to learn and grow, to expand my horizons, to look at things from different angles, to appreciate home, to rest my mind from daily life, to add magic to existence, to challenge myself, to improve skills, to have romance, to read poetry, to foster appreciation of new things, and so much more. So, go get your passport, save your dimes and get on the road!
“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness.” – Mark Twain
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain
“One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things.” – Henry Miller
