What could be more exciting than a grand opening of a brand-new exhibit?

Seeing the excitement from both new and returning guests, and the wonder it can bring to both young and old audiences, is an amazing feeling. At , we get the pleasure of building these exhibits, and contribute to the feelings associated with them. In a way, it is similar to the spirit of the holidays. And what would the holidays be without …

‘Twas the morning before grand open, when all through the place,

Not a guest was stirring, not one in the space.

The was set up with the utmost care,

In hopes that the visitors soon would be there.

Artifacts were nestled all safe in their cases,

Prepared to be viewed by many eager faces.

The docents in the lobby, the curator in tow,

The museum staff moving all to and fro,

When out in the parking lot came such a sound,

From an old school bus that sank close to the ground.

Away to the doors, the staff moved in a hustle,

And opened the blinds to see what was the bustle.

When what to their curious gaze did appear,

Three dozen school children drawing quite near.

The little old driver drove off in a hurry,

And to the front door the children did scurry.

The teachers ran to the front with a fixed aim,

To call out their students specifically by name:

“Now, Jeanie! now, Sophie! now Jonny and Ben!

Hey, Layla! hey, Mia! yo, Frankie and Glenn!

To the front desk! Please line up against the wall!

Now away to the exhibits! DON’T RUN IN THE HALL!”

So the children did listen, and away they flew,

With the museum’s new exhibit, there was so much to do!

There were fun games that the kids did adore,

They learned about and went to explore.

In groups the children made their rounds,

Their interest growing by leaps and bounds.

Their eyes—how they twinkled! Their voices, so gleeful!

When they observed the rhinoceros beetle!

Reading of and their natural habitat,

The mysterious snow leopard and the cute polecat.

Through this exhibit, they began to understand,

That the world around them is so large and so grand!

And just like that, it was time for them to leave,

The teachers exhausted and the children did grieve.

As they lined up to depart, they all did chime

They had learned so much and had such a good time!

Out through the front doors and back on to the bus,

The sat down in a hurry and had much to discuss.

The bus engine roared and the driver took flight,

Taking the children away the fading light.

But the staff heard them exclaim in a cherry refrain—

“I just cannot wait until we visit again!”
