A Story of Museum Advancement that Will Inspire You to Network

Success is sometimes ascribed to whom you know and what you can accomplish together, and pooling resources for better results helps everyone.
In 2012 I met Ed Sheppley. Ed has spent many years of his life an advocate for the heritage story of and for the railroad. He’s dedicated, passionate, and driven to open a railroad museum. Ed attended an interpretive workshop that we put on through the Silos and Smokestacks organization, and contacted us to help him get his message out. This was four years ago, and we still keep in touch regularly. Since the initial “awareness raising” that we assisted with, the has gone on to get it’s non-profit 501c#3, has vetted numerous facilities in which to house the museum, and is actively fundraising.
Last year I met a woman, Carol Timms, who works with the out of Champaign, IL. Carol has been kind enough to for us, and to help us understand the process of grant application for non-profits. They work nationally with non-profits to find grants that help both the funder and the receiving organization. They are essentially financial match-makers.
We introduced Ed and Carol, and they are now working together in looking for applicable grants for the Railroad Museum. Taylor Studios is well connected and is deeply invested in what we do.
