10 Great Things about Knee Surgery – Find the Positive in Anything

About a week ago I had my ACL replaced for the second time in my right knee. They took a ligament out of my left knee to put in the right. I was anxious about surgery and whined a bunch about the whole ordeal. I didn’t want to miss work. I don’t want to miss horse riding and being active. I didn’t want to ask for help. wah wah wah
All in all you can find the positive in just about anything. It’s all a matter of attitude. Here are some of the great things that happened to me because of knee surgery.
1. Feel the love – My 17 year old niece and and 82 year old father came over to take care of me the first few days. When I woke up in fear and pain it was reflected in their eyes. Their care and concern was touching. Plus all the well wishes and help I received from everyone else was very cool. My neighbor even gave me rides to see my horses later in the week when I was able to get into a car.
2. Flowers – I got flowers!
3. Food – Several people brought me food. It was good stuff.
4. Overcoming fear – It’s kind of scary going into surgery. You just have to face your fear and get er done.
5. Sleep – I’m not a very good sleeper. It was nice to have the opportunity to sleep most of a week away.
6. Time on the couch – I’m a very active person and don’t spend a lot of time on my couch. It can be a cool place to hang out. The coolest thing was watching all the birds at my feeders. Other critters, like a ground hog came to visit too. My team from TSI came over and presented using my TV for the PowerPoint. I can run a company from the couch.
7. Time at home – I have a quaint little place in the country surrounded by trees and a river in view. It’s a neat place to hang out. Another thing I don’t do that often.
8. Slows the pace – I certainly wasn’t moving fast this week.
9. Creativity – When you can’t use your knees everyday tasks become fairly big obstacles. You have to find creative ways to go up the stairs, step into the tub, put on your pants and hell even sitting down is a new experience.
10. Appreciation for being healthy – I sure look forward to my knees being back in shape. I miss them.
What is something you did that you feared and in the end many positive things came out of it?
