On Monday, March 16th my leadership team published our Covid-19 action plan to all of our staff. It was a good plan. We had everyone working except two older, part-time employees who we felt would be too much at risk for their health. Our goal was to take care of staff (and clients) by continuing with our work. By Friday of that week the plan was shot. The state
of Illinois closed all non-essential businesses. My production workers could no longer come to our building.

Just like everyone, we are operating in a constantly changing and uncertain environment.

What we are doing to fight back:

The good news is the majority of our staff are working. Even some of our fabricators were able to take work home. In working with potential clients many are planning for the future. They are still planning new projects.

Personally I’m optimistic about the future. We’ve been through ups and downs before. I somehow want to share that feeling with my younger staff to help them through. It will be okay. For myself, I remember gratitude. I remind myself daily of how good life is, from the Great Blue Heron in my backyard this morning, to how my team is helping each other. I realize there is opportunity within all of this. For instance, I can make more progress on that book I’m attempting to write.

I imagine many of you are doing the same things to fight back.

What else are you doing to fight back?

What opportunities has this brought to you?
