It’s a Slam Dunk! Cheering on Teamwork at Taylor Studios

It is said so often that it might seem cliché, but teamwork does make the dream work. This can be said for any endeavor, in any industry, for any group of people. It definitely describes our work here at . Take our Design Department, for example. From day one through the completion of any design project, we are hard at work – meeting together, brainstorming together, solving problems together, and succeeding together. In a way, we’re a bit like a .
Interpretive Planners are the point guards. They set up the play – that is, they kick each project off and set the work in motion. When a project first starts, their workload is heavy. They are the first to dig into the specifics of the project: the site, its resources, its collections, and its content. They lead the first client meeting, brainstorming with the rest of the team. They need to know how to run the play from the very beginning.
Graphic Designers are the shooting guards. They bring beauty and finesse to the exhibits. Working closely with the rest of the team, they establish a graphic style for the project. This includes the color palette, font hierarchy, and other elements of the 2D design. Their eye is fine-tuned, their accuracy is spotless – much like a .
The Exhibit Designers are the power forwards. After the initial client meeting, they take over from the Interpretive Planners, leading the team and “powering forward” in the design process. Like a big man who is fed the ball by their point guard, the Exhibit Designer is fed the content framework and tasked with designing all 3D elements of the space: the exhibits, scenic elements, , , spatial flow, and countless other specifics. They coordinate with the Interpretive Planners, Graphic Designers, and client team to turn the project into a physical reality.
Construction Detailers are centers. They are the finishers, essentially putting the ball through the hoop. They make sure that every single component designed by the Exhibit Designers is detailed and accurate enough to be sent to the Fabrication Shop. Essentially, they take the paper plans and ensure that they can be built “in the real world.” Only then can our Fabricators begin building each component.
Finally, overseeing the whole process is the Design Manager. She is the head coach. She not only creates and oversees the methods that the team uses (the “plays”), but she motivates and inspires everyone along the way. She is the glue that holds the team together at peak performance.
