Nature Education in the USA – Part 1: A Call to Action

Okay, I’ll admit, this post is meant as a “call to
action.” The stats and figures are scary. The American public, and children in
particular, are spending less time learning about science and nature. It might
be up to all of us who champion education – both formally in schools and
informally in nature centers, parks, and museums – to up our efforts in how we
inspire today’s public. More on that later, but first, some of the numbers.

Perhaps one major reason why Americans both know and care less about science, nature, and the environment is due to .[
Now before you get too depressed, here are some numbers
that should cheer you up.
America has an almost endless opportunity to educate children and the wider public about science and nature, as there already exist ready to take up the charge.[
We are the solution! If all of us up our game to
create the absolute best outdoor and exhibit experiences at America’s museums,
nature centers, and parks, we can create change. We can truly alter the
trajectory of our public’s scientific knowledge. Stay tuned for the second part
