Do you love your work? How can you find passion, purpose and love in your work?

Freud said, “Love and work are the cornerstones of our humanness. Love and work…work and love, that’s all there is.”

Work can be an adventure. If you create a roadmap for yourself you can have love and passion in your work. Clarity is the key. The first step to a passionate future is to understand thyself. If you can define what makes you happy you are more likely to achieve love and work.

Here are some questions to ponder:

o What are the things you love?

o What ideas do you love?

o What makes you instantly smile?

o What are your natural talents?

o What do you daydream about?

o When do you lose track of time?

o What places do you love?

o What smells do you love?

o Do you prefer to hear things, look at things or do things?

Once you know what you love you can set a vision for your future. What does doing work you love look like? How can you take steps to get there? To move towards more love in your work establish goals. Our vision establishes our direction. People with a long-term vision tend to be more successful.

“Happiness is the progressive realization of a worthy ideal or goal.” – Earl Nightingale

Once you know what you love and where you are going you can pursue it with a passion. You can build success habits to help you achieve love in your work. Persistence will pay off. Here are some habits that I encourage people to form:

1. Be efficient: – do things faster. Get the right things done and measure your success.

2. Constant Improvement – develop a habit of learning. This can include answering questions about yourself in order to become more self aware.

3. Work Hard – yes it is just this simple you need to work hard to achieve success. However, if you love what you do it won’t seem like work. Most things worth having take some sacrifice.

4. Self-Responsibility – don’t play a victim role. You are in charge of your own destiny.

5. Have Integrity – Nothing is worth having if you don’t earn it honestly.

Taking action is the fist step to being passionate about your work. Action equates to energy. Achieving some successes in your goals will add momentum. Make sure you laugh along the way. Fun and creativity enhance passion and love.

We work in a passionate industry. I mean, dang, what’s not to love about learning history, nature and culture. Our clients are passionate, too. It is infectious. Plus the challenge of small business is fulfilling in itself. Many of us are also passionate about what we do outside of work. For me that includes time on my farm with horses. So on this Valentine’s we have some techniques in finding true romance in love and work, now go grab it by the horns.
