Quality Control – Subtle Changes can Make a Big Difference

As Art Director, one of the duties I have is to inspect our installations. I will fly out during a project installation near its completion and do a “walkthrough.” The purpose of the walkthrough is to make sure “Taylor Quality” has been achieved.

At one of our recent installations, I encountered this issue: I wasn’t pleased with how we finished the electrical work. The electrical cord shown below wasn’t in the visitors path or a tripping hazard and it was secure and protected with plastic conduit, however it didn’t look that great and I knew we could do better. I asked our lead fabricator to straighten the cord, add a cable cover, and paint it to match the floor. I wanted it to “go away.” I also asked that we add conduit up the post to give it a nicer look and hide the cable better.

I would say by looking at the results it was worth the fuss. We made it “go away” and Taylor Quality was achieved.

Good job Curt! (Project Fabrication Lead) You executed the plan perfectly and did a great job matching the brick floor. Last week at the grand opening, a couple people on the project team commented about how they loved it, too.
