As a long-term import from Chicagoland to central Illinois, I’ve become very aware of the lifestyle differences between city and small town. Given we are located in rural, central Illinois, enticing city dwellers to move their life to small town USA for their careers is a difficult task. Small towns are not for everyone. And while we are located 15 minutes from Champaign-Urbana, a hub of urban living, culture, and diversity, it pales in comparison to somewhere like Chicago, L.A, or New York. Still, there are positives to both sides. And, the whole world is a click away with technology and internet, a convenience that wasn’t part of our every-day life just 20 years ago. Having made the city to small town transition about a handful of years ago, here are my nine reasons to switch to small:
