Failure, Opportunity, and Henry Ford

“Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.” -Henry Ford
This is one of my favorite quotes and I have it posted on a wall in my office. It is so true not only at work as Art Director for an exhibit design-build studio, but also in life being a father and husband. As much as I realize this, I still struggle with it as a manager and a father. I dwell too much on the “Failure” aspect and not near enough on how to begin again more intelligently.
Failure is an Opportunity
I think we have to always look at our failures as a positive, an opportunity to learn and get better. Don’t focus on what’s wrong, think about how it points you to what is right. As a father, I tell my children that we fall in order to learn how to get up. As an Art Director, I try to identify what didn’t work and apply those lessons to the next project. Easier said than done right? In the comments below, tell me about a time a failure turned into an opportunity for you.
